You can search this Forum to see the untold pain these things have afflicted on people and Volvo.
Remember that in these cars, if you brick your CeM orECM , you have a giant Swedish paperweight until you get those modules cloned to your car.

That does not help my wife at work wanting to start the car at the end of the day from her office. Average temps in singe digits for a few months out of the year when she gets off work. Nowhere to plug in.

And also the proper heater doesn't wear down the engine like idling a cold car does. Especially at those temps when it takes forever for the oil to get warm idling.
Personally I've never really felt the need, I wear gloves when it's that cold and the seats are warm by the time I've scraped the windows.

These particular cars are not well suited for remote start. Volvo did offer such option but very expensive and very few were so equipped. Aftermarket install will cost a lot, specifically because it needs to deal with the immobilizer. Basically, I would recommend forgetting this option on these cars.

On the cold days, she could pay somebody to go out and start her car. Considering the number of day she would want this service. The total could be less then remote start.

Slightly frosty mornings is all we've been left with for the winter around Boston. I go out in the morning in t-short, flip-flops and no pants to start my car (wife starts her from smartphone) to feel some breeze. Climate change sucks.
