DICE power supply vs Car power supply

Post by rjj100 »

My understanding:

The 12 volt external power supply powering the dice unit is only required to test the DICE or reprogram the firmware in the DICE. In case you were wondering, the positive 12 volts goes to the center pin on the DICE power connector.

I doubt if any forum reader would have need of this supply.

A 12 volt low ripple high current power supply at 13.8 volts supplying additional high current in parallel with the car battery is required for programming the car or any extended OBD2 operation because having the key switch in the on or run position could drain the battery such that the programming could fail or corrupt a program in one of the car’s computers.

Some forum readers would have need for this supply.
