2004 S60 Cold weather no start 30769225 30742823 temperature dependent failure

Post by twrclmr »

New to the forum and Volvo’s. I’m asking about a 2004 S60 2.5T. I’ve read through multiple forums to find a solution for this. If the temp is below 30 the car with turn over but not start. I found that if I get a heat gun and blow heat on the PEM for about 30 seconds or so it starts right up. So I relocated the PEM to under the rear seat, out of the weather. Starts right up no problem if I keep it in my heated shop. Left it outside overnight to do the real test and it’s back to no starting.
Is there something in the PEM that doesn’t like freezing temps or possibly something in the tank on that corner where it was mounted? PEM has not been replaced. Any help is appreciated.

Electronic components have temperature coefficients, that is their value drifts with temperature. The design engineers include elements in their design to compensate for the temperature coefficients. Most of the time it works for the lifetime of the electronics device. However sometimes a component's value will drift with age and alter the upper or lower operating limit.

Thanks for your input. eBay is where I just ordered one from. I found a Bosch video that explained the internal components and cold weather effects.
