98 v70, white exhaust smoke, seek mechanic near Glens Falls NY

Hi folks,
Daughter Dearest was en route to college when the v70 with 360k on the clock broke down. White smoke from the exhaust, reportedly "fan noise" linked to engine rpms during the failure. Towed off highway, no coolant in reservoir, or radiator. Wet engine bay, little to no compression. Car will not start.

Anyone know any good mechanics in the Glens Falls New York area? Time is a factor. Thank you!

Oh no Mark, this is terrible new indeed. Sounds almost like a radiator hose blew, since you mentioned a wet engine bay. Hopefully the engine didn't overheat and seize. Sorry I don't know anybody up that way.

Precision in Albany is closest I know of. I’ve got a friend who can flatbed down, about an hour from Glen Falls

Top radiator hose outlet on the radiator is a weak spot, especially if the engine mounts are failing or broken as it puts more stress on the radiator as the engine rocks back and forward more. Mine broke after just having been at the dealer for sub-frame bushes. Sure they had nothing to do with it failing......................! I was lucky as I was in heavy stop-go traffic and was able to get off the road quickly before frying the engine. I wish you luck!

Daughter is safe me sound back at school, prepping to solve World Problems. I reminded her to text Dad to let her know she was safe for the random guy off the internet who got her on her way, which was funny because she could probably pull my limbs off while still shifting her five speed, like my college athlete.

Found a blown upper rad hose from chafe and (sad trombone ) fast whirry cranking

One cylinders at 150 psi, the rest 20 or worse.

We did a solid towbar flat tow back to Albany (about 60 miles) and got Silver into drydock safely.

Plans to come.
