B5254 T2 Motor for sale

Post by highmiles »

Location: Winston-Salem, NC $350 OBO.
Local pick up/delivery preferred, but willing to consider shipping.

Fits cars with a “59” as the 6th and 7th digits of VIN
2.5L 5 cylinder, dual variable valve timing, light pressure turbo motor
Motor was removed from a wrecked 2006 S60 T5 by the previous owner. Mileage is unknown.
The motor should be a drop in replacement for:
2003-2009 S60 2.5T, front or AWD
2003-2008 V70 2.5T, front or AWD
2003-2007 XC70 2.5T AWD
2003-2006 S80 2.5T
2003-2102 XC90 2.5T AWD

I purchased the motor as a package deal with a 2001 S60 T5. This motor is not a replacement for that car so I rebuilt the original motor.
The motor turns freely.
The motor should be considered a “short block” with all attached components needing to be transferred from another motor. However, the timing belt drive is present and will remain on the engine. There are a variety of parts that have been removed from the motor that I can likely include if needed. The turbo turns freely and is for sale as a separate item.

I can only make a guess at the mileage. The motor came with a car that I purchased. That car was taken off the road in 2013. The owner bought the motor intending to replace the motor in that car. He said the motor was in a 2006 that was rear ended and totaled. That car would have been on the road for 7 years at that time, say an average of 15,000 miles/year so maybe 105,000 miles?
Let me know if I can provide more detailed information or photos. If you are really interested, I may be able to do a compression test.
Thanks, John

Well, a disappointing outcome to the test. I set up a leak down test. I am no expert on running this test. Even when I think I am at top dead center right on, when I apply the air pressure it always makes the engine turn. While holding the crank in place while applying the air I could develop pressure in cylinders 1, 2 and 4, but 3 and 5 leaked. 3 through an intake valve and 5 through an exhaust.
I don't know if this is a condition caused by the motor sitting and if it would improve if run. Having said that, I would figure that the head would need to be gone through before it was installed in a car. With the manifolds off you can see the valves, but I would doubt that you could improve the condition in anyway, but happy to try ideas.
Thanks for asking for the numbers, I would have hated to have misrepresented it's condition. And I certainly am glad to have not installed it in another car!
Free to a good home? Happy to help load it! Otherwise, it may be on the way to the junkyard.

I have attached a few more photos.

Engine does turn over easily by hand, spark plugs look good and are Volvo branded.

Let me know if there is other information you need.
