850s from late '95 & s,v70 ...both have SIPS(Side Impact Protection System)airbags.....difference is that 850 have them mechanically triggered and s,v70 have them electronically triggered...BUT designations are the same SIPS airbag.

850s from '91-'95 have only SIPS without airbags.
Both my SIPS are not connected via electronic/wire. They only have the cylinder with the clip and tube. I'm pretty positive mine are mechanical.
It was 99 (after Ford took over) that the electric SIPS were implemented.

Are you sure that seats are original and not replaced with late '95-'97 850 front seats?

They are interchangeable and almost look identically.
EU cars (s,v70)have electronically sips airbags...from introduction of S,V70 models in '97.
I'll show you a wiring diagram for SRS system where you can see yourself that s,v70 cars have electronically triggered SIPS airbags(linked with crash sensor)from '97-'00(P80 cars) and 850s from late '95 -'97 SIPS airbags are not linked with crash sensor.

It’s both model and market dependent with EU getting the good stuff a year or two in advance of the rest of the US

The heated seat portion is different on -98 and 99- cars. The wiring is different for the seat underneath, but I was able to swap the part over I needed. If I recall also the heated seat on -98 have the wires to the seat element going up through a hollow in the middle of the seat base cushion, and on the 99- the wire goes to the back of the seat base. I would suggest that they also used different seat heater mats as well because of this.

If the -98 heaters do not work it is A) because the heater element has failed, or B) the wires have broken under the seat. The design allows the wires to the seat element to move in the hollow cylinder to the connector in the seat base cushion every time the seat is moved and eventually they will break either the connector or the wire. IT can be repaired but is likely to fail again unless you find a way to take the strain off the connector by say stuffing the hollow cylinder in the foam with something to protect the wires.

Based on many times my driver's seat has been apart over the years, my '98 V70 has 850-style mechanical detonators (and the red safety gizmo) that look just like the ones in this thread:

These features came in different models, labels, and model years across world markets.

The 5 v70s I've seen, they all have identical seats.
