Sunroof testing?

So I'm finally working out all of the little gremlins in my 01 V70XC. And there seems to be one I can't crack, the SUNROOF!! now I'm fully aware this is one of the more finicky parts of a P2 and I'm ready to tackle it head on. So recently I replaced my whole mirror assembly from one out of a S80. Mainly because it was a good find as it had the key fob with it and it WASN'T auto-dimming(one less thing to fix). I know that the mirror is directly connected to the keyless entry and I was eager to get it working. So a short while later I plug in the mirror and PRESTO! I have a key fob and all my dome lights ( I hadn't had any before this) the one thing that eludes me is the sunroof. Do I need to go get a new motor for it considering that everything else works and my Code reader can even see it throwing codes for the sunroof exclusively. No alarm siren but keyless entry? I figured if one was gone they should all be? Am I mistaken? Any thoughts are welcome. Thank you for your help

so your saying that the key fob (paired with the mirror from the S80 works on your XC after you replaced the mirror (UEM?)
or are you saying your original keyfobs work with the new mirror?

I'm saying the S80 Key fob works with the S80 Mirror installed on my XC

Interesting.. I think i read before that you couldnt switch the mirror without taking it to the dealer to marry it?
Glad it worked for you and I think I'll try the same thing since I dont have any fobs when i got the car.

I have the same issue with the sunroof. Mine works 5% of the time. I did read that you can disconnect the alarm module
to make your roof work (dead/leaking battery in alarm module) I did try that but it didnt work for me but for others it worked.

if you have no alarm sound then the siren module can be disconnected to see if the sunroof works.
SIren module is on passenger side wheel wheel. You will need to remove the wheel well liner and its to the nose of the
car. You will get an alert on the DIM for the first 5 seconds if its disconnected when starting the car. People have had luck that the sunroof
starts working. In my case it didnt do anything by disconnecting it.

Is there a way to simply have the sunroof run on it's own circuit? Eliminate the siren altogether.... Nobody wants to steal a dirty 01 XC..LOL

On our 2004 XC70 (P2 Chassis) the sunroof got stuck open because the alarm module (Siren/module) failed. I was able to manually close the sunroof by removing the motor, then replaced the motor(just like a door window regulator motor). Anyway I replaced the alarm module with a new one from a reputable Volvo vendor. After replacing the alarm module everything obviously starting working properly again.

Disconnect the Siren and the Sunroof will start working again if there is nothing wrong with the Sunroof. You will still get the warning for the Siren but the Sunroof will work.

It is a common problem, the defective Siren pulls down the shared communication bus and prevents communication with the Sunroof.
