Hi,
I'm wondering if when doing an engine swap on a 2000 Volvo V70XC with another 2000 V70XC it is necessary to transfer the ECU from the donor engine?

I am trying to think why would you need to change the ECU. I can't think of a reason to as there is nothing in the engine that is unique. The only things are linked to the ignition switch and the ignition keys and alarm system.
The ETM should also be ok.
Any on want to add to this or tell me I am full of crap? I am happy to stand corrected.
Neil.

There is a thread here on someone who documented what modules are VIN specific, I recall that the list was
ECM
CEM
DIM
but that information is deemed 80% reliable

It is not necessary to transfer any electronics between the two cars.Richard99 wrote: 29 Jan 2020, 11:49 Hi,

If you can avoid transferring any software driven electronics between the two car, the swap is more likely to go without a hitch.
