Hello,
Recently when i go to get gas at the gas station the operator puts the hose in the gas neck and starts to pump gas into the car tank, then soon after the hose nozzle "pops" and the gas stops flowing so they have to pull the trigger again. This happens very often like when getting 20 dollars gas it might pup every $1.50 or 2 dollars so it stops at least 10 times every time i get gas.
Any ideas what would cause this?

Gas Pump Keeps Stopping When Getting Gas
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

The vent hoses at the filler neck can get clogged , but this is rare. Usually I find I have to slow the nozzle a bit on a Volvo fill as opposed to my German Fleet, I think it’s. A Swedish quirk.

I have the same problem, I pull the nozzle out about a quarter-to-half way and only squeeze the handle half way. It's slow, but it stopped the popping issue.
This issue started for me on my 99 na after I replaced a torn vac tube line behind the carbon canister box (mine is located under the filler neck). So I suspected something is clogged. Like Abscate, alot of people on a Facebook group suggested the filler neck vent as a place where spiders and other things clog up. I think some others have suggested sometype of valve under the filler neck (don't qoute me on this, I can't remember it correctly)

Spiders cannot live in the toxic environment of the fuel filler.
Your charcoal canister is probably full of liquid gasoline instead of vapors. Blame the attendants for overfilling the tank. Next couple of fill ups, give the attendant a $10 and then add when the level is just above the red line.

Agreed. Over-filling the gas tank floods the carbon filter. Replacing it or removing it and drying it out will likely fix the issue. As to 'clogging. what is there to clog the gas tank unless you get a lot crap in your gas where you live. Other thing to check is the roll-over valve is operating correctly. They can jam and restrict air flow through the gas system.

Maybe this is what I'm dealing with then, as the problem started after I replaced this torn vac tube pictured in the bottom left. I'll look into roll over valve. But for OP I'm not sure if I have enough experience to add to this conversation

Hi,
Thanks for the info.
The thing is, i never get a fill up i always get less than a full tank when i go to the gas station. It never reaches the full mark.
I also read now about a "purge solenoid" supposedly has something to do with this. I dont know where it is located in the car though.
Any ideas?

I had similar trouble at the filling station too. In my case, the hose at the roll over valve was damaged and restricted. I replaced it and haven't had trouble since. Pictures here:

On the '97, the roll over valve is near the right rear wheel, under the car next to the fuel filter. I'm not sure where it's located on the '98.
