1999 S70 NA For Sale or part-out: $800

Post by evolutionarywar »

2/8/2020 UPDATE: radio and spoiler sold. Price lowered to $800.

found a replacement for my S70, and will be selling or parting out the car. Its a 1999 S70 non-turbo automatic with approximately 220,000 miles. I'm the second owner. It has a current Virginia safety (through 6/2020) and emissions (through 11/2021) inspections. Its still runs and drives well and is driven daily, but needs repairs/maintenance that I've decided not to invest in.

1. It leaks transmission fluid, not exactly sure from where, though I think it may be an axle seal. My commute is about 20 miles round-trip, and I have to add about a quart every month or so. Under constant hard acceleration, stop-and-go or high speed driving, it can go through a couple of quarts in 100-200 miles. I still drive the car daily, and have just been topping off the fluid as needed.

2. After idling for extended periods, the engine will begin to sputter and eventually cut off. Afterwards, starting the engine usually requires that the car sit for a few minutes.

3. Under heavy acceleration, between 3000-4000 rpms, there is a flat spot.

4. Once warm, it sometimes taking several cranks to get the engine to turn over. When cold, the engine starts right up

5. Timing belt is due to be changed.

6. PCV system needs servicing (slight smoke from oil dipstick tube, glove inflates)

Everything is available. Here's a quick list of some items that might be of interest:

1. Xemodex throttle body, purchased new/installed 7/2018
2. CARQUEST radiator, purchased new/installed 1/2020
3. CARQUEST thermostat, purchased new/installed 1/2020
4. Coolant temp. sensor, purchase new/installed 1/2020
5. GS-P front struts/springs/mounts, purchased new/installed 5/2019
6. E-Line slotted front brake rotors and pads (from R1 Concepts), purchased new/installed 5/2019
7. Front brake calipers (reman OEM), purchased new/installed 5/2019
8. iPd HD sway bar links, purchased used/installed 7/2019
10. Stainless dash trim - some nicks and dings, but overall good shape
11. Leather steering wheel (thicker style) - excellent condition
12. Speedometer cluster from XC70 with trip computer and switch (210k)
13. Auto-dimming rearview mirror from C70 - excellent condition
14. Eggcrate grille - good condition
15. Front bumper fog light trim
16. Body panels (doors, trunk) are in very good condition, with the exception of the hood which has some rock chips and a slight ding above the driver's side headlight.
17. Door switches all work; driver's shows some wear, others excellent.
18. Headlights and taillights in great shape.
19. Seats are faux leather/vinyl and with the exception of the drivers seat outer bolster, are in excellent condition with no tears or cracking.
20. Carpet clean and completely intact with no tears.

I'd like to think.I'd rather someone buy it and keep it on the road, but am not willing to just give it away. Time will tell!

What a nice project for someone!!

But, if you end up parting it out, I'll call dibs on the Steering Wheel, the Front Calipers and the Xemodex ETM (I have to find out how that can be reprogrammed to fit my car first though)

Thanks! Regarding the Xemodex, is your car a naturally aspirated S70 automatic? If so, while I'm not 100% sure, it should be plug and play.

It has the same engine as yours, but it's a 5-speed manual. Need to do more research on this.

I hope you find someone who will rescue this beauty. As others have said already, it's way too nice to part out. But...if things don't turn out that way, I will take some stuff.

I really like the Meteors btw, but I guess you are keeping them?

Thanks, Dirk. You are correct - mine is a naturally aspirated automatic.

The part out has begun, so Im glad to work with you the parts. It turns out that I'm probably going to need the calipers as the ones on my new vehicle are in rough shape. The steering wheel is available, as is the Xemodex.

Without these, I can't move the car so my preference would be to sell these last, but I'm flexible. Worst case scenario, I can get a steering wheel from the junkyard.

Let me know if you're still interested and we can go from there.

Thanks,

Chris

Get that seat leather off and you can move that quickly, looks nice.

Move quickly before the $100 new option hits in two months

Snap a picture of the driver inside fender plate to capture your exterior and interior colour code too.

Dirk -- For some reason I can't seem to send PMs. If you PM me an email address or cell number I'll get you some pics and we can go from there. Evan
