dipstick tube O ring
I tracked down my oil leak to the dipstick tube O ring. I have a T5, BTW. What size should I get? one that seals real well. I hope to find one at the hardware store or auto parts store tomorrow.. Thanks

The cross-section of the o-ring is rectangular. I think you could probably get round (cross-sectional) o-rings to seal (doubled or tripled up), but I think they will tend to "roll up" the dipstick tube as you insert it. Maybe if you can get the right size use 3 or even 4 just in case the top one rolls up too far.
This is OEM Volvo - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 30637865oe
This is aftermarket - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... al-1397983
I've used both several times with success, so I'd say go with the cheaper.
O-ring dimensions are ID - 10.97mm (safe to say 11mm ID would work), 15.99mm OD, and a cross sectional width of 4.27mm.

Ha-ha
My dipstick seal was old, dried and loose.
I bought a real, OE replacement seal.
After installation I landed the dipstick.
I tried pulling the dipstick and the red plastic part broke off leaving the stick in the tube.
So, I advise you clean the involved part of the tube so it's smooth inside. A touch of lube (oil, silicone) wouldn't hurt.
Also remember the plastic handle ages too.
I'd get a real seal rather than monkey around with O rings which may or may not be heat resistant.
If you go the O ring route see if you can find Viton O rings. They're dabbed with green.

- Check your PCV system for clog, this is how you get oil coming out of dipstick...
- At this age, sometimes it is better to get new dipstick, which is about $15-$20 at dealer.
The plastic can be detached from the handle.
