Btw, I am seriously impressed by your work.
I think we have had three bottom ends go bad on the history of this forum, They are really tough. The head goes way before anything in the block gets to damage temperatures.

I dunno about hazard pay. You could be soldiering onward here- minus 5 degrees this morning. Balmy eight degrees as the sun begins to fade.

I firmly believe that head gasket jobs should only be done in sub 15 degree weather

Something for your wish list, $15.00 - $20.00 .abscate wrote: 14 Feb 2020, 05:45 Omen minute low flame. $160 less a few bad boys saved. I think most will come out easily. Kudos to Volvo for high quality steel studs

With propane and wrench I’ve got 7 studs put in 20 minutes. The last three will get double nutted, MAPP or oxy acetylene and another 30 minutes to get out.
So 10 studs will take one hour at $150’ an hour labor, or $15 per stud
I knew $16 a stud was a ripoff......
It’s like these shops have done this before ...

How did I miss this? All this happened in a week?! Impressive. White shirt reminds me of classic Indy mechanics - that's the look!
I finally bought a $49 HF(fright) impact gun to get a 24mm suspension nut off of a Land Rover. Felt a little guilty it was so easy. But the book says 184 ft-lbs, and it was not coming off with pipes and breaker bars, heat, PB, anything.

Yikes. That’s -29C for our EU friends. That’s respectable cold even for SE FIN NOR!
Double nutted the last three exhaust studs and 60 more seconds of propane, all came out easily. Much better torque than vice grip.
Good quality steel studs are the savior here. Thanks Volvo.
