2006 V70R AWD Auto -- Radio Volume Increasing Spontaneously

Like the thread title says. -- My radio volume just started increasing spontaneously. 2006 w/ 224 k miles. Any ideas?

Check the options and see if you have turned on auto compensation.

With me, it usually means I haven’t flown] recently and my ears pop.

Next time you drive somewhere, just parking, or waiting for someone; just turn off the radio and turn the volume knob back and forth a million times. I'm guessing the knob gear is dirty, so just spin it for a bit and see if you stop getting the spontaneous increase.

It's maybe because you think you're laying on the horn because of that idiot in front of you, but instead you're pushing the volume button on the wheel.

I always forget about my P2 steering wheel switches.

Does it happen when you are adjusting the cruise speed?

Try what Chris said. I pull the volume and tuning knobs off and vacuum the hole and then spin the knobs and it has fixed the phantom volume change and station change. It can be issues with steering wheel controls but that is something I only saw once myself and the button on steering wheel would hang due to something sticky in button cavity.

One of the known failure points on these radios are internal solder joints and cable connections. Symptoms can include radio station/mode selection buttons being spontaneously activated. Goes without saying it's likely possible that in some cases the volume controls can be affected. If the steering wheel controls and actual volume knob seem to check out ok, you'll want to keep this in mind.
