2004 XC90 trailer wiring harness

Post by asummers »

Has anyone installed a factory trailer wiring harness on their XC90? There are a few of the after market varieties out there that require splicing, etc. But a factory harness looks like it has just a plug that goes on, and done. I have found factory sets for a 2004 V70 but not my XC90 yet. Thanks.

I bought a plug in version for my '13 R-series from eTrailer with no problems what so ever. Plugged in where the tail light harness is in each rear corner.

I have an 04 XC90 and am trying to find the correct OEM wiring harness. Volvopartswebstore (RickHaleParker's link) says that I need harness 30796541 along with trailer module 30664652. I actually already have these from the junk yard trailer hitch that I pulled. Unfortunately, these parts only fit 05 and later (despite what Volvopartswebstore says). The 05 and later cars have a 10 pin male connection that is built into the Rear Electronics Module. The 03 and 04's do not. I am getting the impression that I want part number 30681980 which is a simpler harness that does not hook into a trailer module. Instead, it looks like it only has one 10 pin connector. I can't tell from pictures whether this 10 pin connector on 30681980 is male or female. In my 04, there is a 10 pin/wire female connector below the right taillight that might be the plug in location. Can anyone confirm whether 30681980 is what I want and whether it plugs into the existing connector below my right taillight?

You need the harnesses from a 2003 or 2004. It all changed in 2005 per VIDA. The parts catalog being wrong is nothing new.

Which harness you need, depends on if your tow is 7 pole, 13 pole or if you want the ability to switch between 7 & 13 pole.
