Defective new PCV?

Post by befarrer »

Back when I got my car in the summer, I replaced the entire PCV system before driving it due to some popped out cam seals indicating a problem with it. I used the IPD kit, all went well, I did the glove test afterwards, and it never did suck it in, nor did it fully inflate it. I also connected a long hose to the dipstick and a pressure gauge that will read as low as 0.5psi, drove it under full throttle, and never read any pressure. 10,000KM later with the PCV system connected as factory, no issues with dipstick popping out, or any leaks, even from oil cap. The only issue I have had is oil leaking from the air intake pipe clamp on the turbo inlet, due to oil pooling there from the PTC vent there, which is as clean as new. I'm trying to see if my bevel gear is leaking there, and the turbo dripping on it makes that hard, so I ran vents to atsmophere from the large PCV hose to the PTC and from the dipstick, after driving, both were full of milky oil/water that froze to the underbody in a long icicle, and can see white smoke coming out after a 85KM highway drive at idle. I'm not loosing coolant, level has not dropped in the 10,000KM I have had it. Is it possible my oil seperator is not working as intended, or another issue? I never removed the oil pan to clean passages in there, I just blew into a hose into the drain of the PCV seperator in the block, and if freely flowed into the oil pan.

I guess coles notes, I seem to be getting alot of oil/water in my intake due to the PCV system, could my IPD PCV seperator not be working correctly?

When you say IPD PCV separator - do you mean a Volvo branded one bought from IPD?

Reason I ask is there has many many many issues with aftermarket items just not working correctly. If it's a 3rd party catch can, try removing it and cleaning it with solvent, then checking again. They clog up, just like the Volvo one.

Does this car see mostly short trips around town, or does it get fully warmed up most times?

Oops, sorry, I meant URO kit. Im in Alberta, so temps have been always below freezing, most of the trips are under 30 minutes. I do a long highway trip of about 1 hour each way every 2 weeks or so. Im parking the car for a few months this weekend as I go back to school, my primary result from this was to get rid of an obvious oil leak to see if I have another oil leak in the same area, so I could tackle it while the car is parked. But if there is another issue with the PCV box, I could tackle that at the same time.

We are not big Fans if URO parts that see oil, fuel, ATF, brake fluid, coolant, power steering, or vacuum - other than that, they are fine.

Never ever use Uro branded pipes. Having spent ages cleaning and replacing the PCV system with a kit from IPD years ago, the short 'J' pipe from the side of the catch can to the middle of the block split after 700km. IPD stopped using URO parts after 2 other customers had the same issue around the same time. They refunded the part price and I used a Volvo part, but naturally cost a lot in time and extra money as the inlet manifold had to come off again to replace it.

Hey guys go look up the word Uro in a dictionary. Uro describes Üro Parts to a tee.
