T45 torx bit

Post by neilpatstone »

Hi I need to remove the timing belt tensioner, it has a T45 torx bit but it needs to be very short, I can find them in America but not here in Portugal or the UK, if anyone has any other suggestion of how to remove the pulley or where I could purchase one that would be great, many thanks Neil

A mechanic friend taught me that he buys several sockets of the same size so he can modify them for specific jobs. He grinds the bit end a bit shorter and the ratchet end a bit until it fits.

If there’s room, sometimes a box end wrench
the same size as the bit can work in tight spots.

I use an L-shaped torx for that, it works really well if you slip a thin pipe over the long arm to extend the torx lever up to the top near the timing sprockets. It is important to lever the bottom of the wrench into the T-45 hole at the same time. I use a flat prybar with my other hand. This has always broken them free, without hassle.

Even a cheap L-shaped torx works from me, from an inexpensive kit with several in the set.

Be careful to not strip out the torx recess.

Bondhus 31845: T45 Torx L-wrench - Long Arm (Carded) on eBay US. You might find one on Ebay eBay Portugal.

It is 5.4 inched long. You could slip a cheat bar over it for mechanical advantage.

You can also sometimes use the bit without the handle to fit in that space. A box end wrench (19mm?) slide over the bit to turn it then

Bmdub has a nice picture of that if needed, post request here.
