Collector Vehicle Status for 2000 V70

Post by AnyMajorDude »

What do you think are the prospects of being granted a collector vehicle status in New Jersey for my 2000 V70 wagon? Seems to me biggest unknown is verifying that a limited quantity of the original production run remains. Here are the basic from the NJ motor vehicles website:

Standards
Collector Vehicles must:
Be a limited production vehicle or a vehicle made in limited quantities.
Be less than 25 years old.
Not be registered as a historic vehicle or a street rod.
Not be driven more than 3,000 miles per year.
Be insured as a limited use collector vehicle.
There is a fact sheet: https://www.nj.gov/mvc/pdf/vehicles/col ... _sheet.pdf

Im doing this so it is exempt from inspection and vehicle emissions testing.
I don't drive it much, only to the lumber yard and for transporting bulky things twice a month. Its a great lower cost alternative to a pickup truck. But presently it will not pass emissions due to check engine light being on consistently due to ETM issues.
Thanks to all. Love my car.

I may have reading comprehension issues, but I don't see anywhere in the regulatory language where you can get collector status by demonstrating that a limited number of the original production run remains. Rather, I believe the regulation speaks to a limited number being produced initially, without regard to how many may still be hanging on. As far as "limited production" initially goes, I have no idea what kind of numbers would satisfy that threshold. Time to call Trenton. A creative idea for sure, but I doubt you'll have much luck with it.

I think limited production run here refers to the practice of announcing a numbered model run with an end date, not just the fact that the number of cars map to the whole numbers N, with N finite.

All you need is a FrustratedPhD Mathematician at NJ DOT and you are set.

Your particular model year represented the single largest, as in 110,000 plus produced according to a Volvo enthusiast website.
