Re: Suspension noise

The end links can be evasive little buggers. Sometimes you truly can’t “feel” if they are bad until you have them off the car. You can usually tell which side is bad/worse, but I would still replace both if you are setting out in that direction.

Don’t put Chinese suspension parts in the front of these cars. I’d need to look, but I’m pretty sure I am running Meyle HD links in 3/4 of our P2’s. They are made in Turkey.

The two videos do indeed sound pretty similar. As above, it's not always obvious, sometimes it's just the upper bolt not tight enough. Meyle HD is decent for this part, Lemforder should also be good. Upper bolt is tricky, lower one takes a grinder right away www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg8e5vKdgbI
Try to look at the spring seats from above www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj4JmZS2yM4
May also consider the noise may not come from the suspension, could as well be something inside the dash or doors - yet still 'sounding' like coming from the outside, but I would think end links have a good chance

1. Open hood.
2. Stand on the side of the car near Wheel well.
3. Grab Wheel well.
4. Fix your eye on the top of the strut.
5. Bounce car up and down.
6. Observe strut mount. If the strut mount is broken you will see it.
7. Repeat 2 - 6 for the other side.

For any part that has a rubber boot that you suspect is bad due to age, try injecting some grease into it with a small needle. Has help postponed CV axle, bushing and sway bar link replacements. It can also potentially help eliminate sounds which were not traceable to anything obvious.

Did this to all the bushing our 2003 Lexus GS300 and the car became super smooth and quiet on the road as if it were riding on oil. Other uses were for a leaking inner CV joint on an 03 Odyssey and the sway bar links with cracked boot.

Sway Bar Bushings? The video reminded me of my brother's 93 850 which he purchased new. It developed a creak / snap in the front which the dealer had trouble figuring out. I was at Pep Boys in 94 so had him bring the car over so I can rack it. Turned out to be a broken bolt on the front sway bar clamp.

Update for everyone:
I replaced the sway bar links with some Meyle HD's and the noise is still there. Did a bounce test while looking at the strut mount and there was no major signs of anything wrong. I think it could be the sway bar bushing. I'll make sure to check the bushing with a pry bar. If I were to buy a sway bar bushing where would I get one? FCP does not carry one for my car (2007 Volvo S60 2.5t)

My sway bar bushings are worn and knock but it's a completely different noise. Maybe a worn strut ? Any leaks ? Are they original ? Should have a Volvo/Sachs sticker on the hidden side, can use a mirror.

The struts are original (I have 80k miles). Theres no sign of leaking and they aren't greasy. There is a good amount of rust on the strut. Is 80k miles too early for struts?

I missed it the first time, but my upper spring seat on the passenger side has a huge tear in it. Looks like you guys were right.
