1998 s70 GLT - OOPS!

Post by ShadyMilkMan »

Hey guys,

So I am inspecting and replacing emissions hoses and lines today and came across this little fella with the white and black antacid tablet looking thing on it. It runs from the purge valve underneath the fan shroud to... whatever that is, located directly above the throttle body. You can see that I've broken the nipple this hose was connected to. What is that little vacuum tree, or whatever it is, how important is it that I replace it? It looks like there are several other nipples that have been capped off. Can I use one of the 'extra' nipples and seal the hole with some epoxy?

Also, does the black part of the oreo go toward the engine, or the white part? xD

Thanks in advance!

You can attach to a capped one on the vacuum tree (which is hollow and has a rubber gasket at base) and seal the broken hole.

The OREO is a check valve that only allows flow of gas from the white side to the black side. They rarely fail but I don’t think you can source them new anymore. You can use a generic one from a FLAPS...local auto parts store

Last I looked they were ~$30/each. Crazy price for a darn check valve.

Not sure this is precisely the one, but $10. That's a bit more reasonable... https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... 34341.html
