Hot Glue Gun and quick setting in place will hold you till the diode or you lose the part.

You would be out of luck again. Both are missing on this one.
I can keep an eye out for one in black when I raid the local self service yard.

Probably a bad head gasket... time for a compression/leakdown test. I don't think cracked liners will cause oil and coolant to mix... typically that just burns coolant. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if that's an issue too once you get the head off.

If you choose to fix it, my suggestion is a 2005-2009 2.4 T5 engine... nice bolt-in upgrade.

I hope it is just a head gasket. Ordered a replacement compression tester. Could not find one local with a deep well extender.

That would be the B5244T5.
Exact same engine as the B5254T4 S60R/V70R except the bore is 81mm vs 83mm and different injectors.
Both engine have the Borg Warner K24 turbocharger.
B5254T4 : 296 hp at 6000 rpm, 258 lb⋅ft of torque at 1950–5500 rpm (1)
B5244T5 : 256 hp at 5500 rpm, 260 lb⋅ft of torque at 2100 rpm.
I wonder what the B5244T5 would do with the B5254T4 software and injectors.

The B5244T5 was also used in the 2005 - 2007 V70 T5.

(1) torque limited.

Thanks, good idea to put it in place temporarily.

If you get to it, thank you! It's on my list but trips to the yard are very few for me.

That's a good one... some minor front end repair and you'll be back on the road.

It would probably handle it very well, it's a common upgrade for the R. You get the same head as the 4T4 with thicker cylinder walls to support the power and avoid cracked liners. Same forged rods as the 4T4 as well.
