Lower thermostat housing

Broken bolt broke the lower thermostat housing ear bad... How do I get at that lower housing without removing the power steering pump. I know can remover the ps reservoir ok but will the fuel rail get in the way to get the lower thermostat housing out?

Am I going to have to remove the ps pump. This means I'll need a certain tool for that belt serpitene is that so. I could scream bc I'm not the one who broke my housing. This job is gotten me very nervous. What are my best tools for this . please I need lots of input ya'll. Thanks guys..

Removing the serpentine belt is fairly straight forward. What tool you need to remove it depends on which tensioner you have. On the 94 850, if I recall there is a square hole in the middle of the tensioner pulley. I have used a socket wrench on this, but there is a tool for the job. It is a generic, and I think in the US my brother got one from Harbor Freight and it was cheap (<$20).

Make sure you take a picture of the serp belt routing to ensure you get it back on the same way.

The power steering unit can be un-bolted and moved to the side to get better access. Just watch as the connector for the Engine Coolant Sensor (ECT) is mounted to it and it tend to get fragile with age.

You should be able then to access the bolts for the thermostat housing easily. Been a while since I did this on an 850 so hopefully an 850 owner who has done this can chirp in. They may be able to confirm if removal of the power steering pump is actually required, but I think it is.

Thank you Neil. I think I have to remove the PS pump as well from the looks of it just scooting it over I'm like where? I will simply unplug the sensor. Thanks for the remind of taking a pic of the serp. belt. If I run into a snag I'll get back. Yep mine's a square hole on the pulley found one on line for 17 didn't see one at harbor freight. I know that can be done with 2 wrenches but not by me. ( :.
