Fuel filter - best way to relieve pressure?

The Volvo spec allows for pressure to drop by about 50% in one half hour, so it would not be a fault condition to find nearly no pressure after sitting overnight

That the fuel lines into and out from the filter itself released without (reported) drama is good news.
I apply the thinnest of smears of silicone grease to fuel filters' nipples.
The way I see it, the sealing elements (O rings?) of the fuel lines in our cars are 14 to 20 years old and can benefit from a little lube.
