98 AWD Tire Clearance

I have searched and there seems to be a consensus that 225 tires are the widest that will fit on a P80 Volvo, with 235 possibly fitting depending on the offset. It seems this clearance issue is in the rear, and since the AWD uses a different suspension (multi link vs a trailing delta link system), I am wondering if a different size tire can be fitted? I am looking at buying a used set of aftermarket rims with tires for my car, I don't know the offset or anything, but the tires are 235/45R17. I am thinking I might take a chance with these tires since they are a good price, if the tires dont fit, I can always change them.
