I've been wondering the same myself...
The panic could end up causing more damage to more people than the illness. Herd mentality at its' worst.
So the best we can do is to calm down, stay clean, and give the health community a chance to catch up.

The positive has been having more time to work on the car, which has been honestly very therapeutic. It's amazing how refreshing it can be to solve clear, physical world problems with known solutions, when everything else is the opposite.
I get a lot of therapy from fixing both my and others' cars - and its cheaper than either therapists or mechnanics - and you get free used oil if you play your cards right.
I'm a pretty selfless guy so I like to donate my used oil to my local parts store. They always seem happy to take it so I'm assuming they need it more than me. You should try thinking about someone besides yourself, Steve.
I sell the used oil to cheap Scots and use the proceeds on hookers and blow - thats funding both the entertainment industry and farmers - that practically makes me Schweitzer...
Don't get me wrong here, Im not joking, but why is there a run on toilet paper?

I think the toilet paper run is because people think they need 259 rolls of toilet paper if they get quarrentined for 14 days. I should sell my used toilet paper for profit...

How many toilet rolls do people use on a week or even 14 days? There was a lady on a radio show saying that if you are a family of 4 you would need a lot. When asked how many she had she said 2x48 packsand had just bought another 48. The kicker?? She was single!!! Does she eat the stuff?

This is a respiratory virus. Why is there no run on tissue? Maybe we can get ahead of the curve.

At the supermarket yesterday and toilet rolls were sold out.

Having said that latest stats from China show people can be infected and show no symptoms or feel unwell. They also now say that once infected the virus stays in your airways for on average 20 days. Worst case was 39 days. So 14 day isolation is not going to do it.

Maybe we do need to stock up on toilet paper after all!!

Neil.

I'm not a huge believer in government to begin with, but even that low bar has been exceeded (as in, lower) by the US federal response.

Criticism is warranted here IMHO.

The run on tp is strange at first blush, but after some thought, pretty normal for us humans. It's a pretty tame response when you consider how much war and violence we've experienced and committed in our collective history.

I'm limiting my exposure to external environment (businesses, restaurants, etc.). I'm no spring chicken any more, and I have high blood pressure (hereditary, damnit). Otherwise healthy, save for flat feet (no arch), and maybe a lurking bone spur.

Thanks for keeping this thread civil, so far, by not unloading crudely or defending crudely political figures.

Interesting. Via the Volvo Cars Bridgewater (just outside New York City) email list:
To our valued customers:

Health and Safety is our top priority at Volvo Cars Bridgewater.

During this Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis we have implemented an enhanced cleaning schedule and updated our people and product safety controls. We wanted to let you know the steps we are taking to make our dealership safe and available for you in coming months ahead.
  • Effective immediately we have stepped up our cleaning schedules to include hourly wiping down all doors and handles and all top surfaces where customers and employees interact.
  • Wiping down EPA certificated disinfectants our loaners and demos fleets before customers and employees use.
  • Wiping down your car before and after servicing.
  • Technicians and porters are using gloves during servicing and road tests and check-in procedures.
  • Sending home any employees that show any signs of illness.
If you would prefer to stay home during this time we offer "Volvo Valet" for servicing . By appointment we will pickup your car. Leave you a new Volvo loaner car, then bring your car back to you ones done. There is no charge for this extra service.

Our sales department will be able to spec. out a potential car for you over the phone and work up a satisfactory price for a lease or a buy.

Safety has always been a guiding principle at Volvo and your health and well being is our guiding principle at Volvo Cars Bridgewater.

Thank you for you Patronage,

The employees at Volvo Cars Bridgewater & The Long Family
