Thanks, interesting to know. And what a perfect timing to learn more about corona. Also, there is an Italian town called Corona. Coincidence? I doubt it 😉

Now, back to business. I swapped the cap, rotor, wires and and fuel pump and injector relais from the 94 to the troublesome 96. Now it seems to work flawlessly, runs great under boost (that TME exhaust makes a noticeable difference).

What is left to do is
a) hope that it stays this way and
b) try to sort out the problematic part by swapping single parts between cars.

I will update if I can duplicate the problem in the 94 when installing all parts I removed from the 96.

Glad you sorted it out,but you should perform swapping for one item at a time.
Now....we don't actually know which item was the source of the problem.
'97 850 2.5 20v / fully equipped / Motronic 4.4 from the factory / upgraded with S,V,C,XC70 instrument cluster / polar white wagon

Buy new parts for the 1994, throw the old ones away, and go smell the 🌹

I will try to identify the faulty part by swapping single parts now, but I finally wanted to see results. now it is down to 5 parts, of which I will start with inspection of the fuel pump relais because 24 yrs old. then I will give the cap and rotor a shot (although just 4 yrs old).
