Many Remote Key Insertions Before Starting
Many Remote Key Insertions Before Starting
I must often insert the remote key many times before the car (2008 XC70 3.2) will start. This could be two times or ten times+. May be related to outside temp but not sure. As far as I can tell this is not related to engine temp. No codes. I am following the correct insertion starting procedure. Have tried either side up. I have replaced the remote batteries. If after running the car I leave the remote key all the way in and turn off the car but do not eject the remote key, often the car will not restart without more ejection/insertions. I'm not convinced replacing the remote key (car has 101,000 mi) will fix this so given the expense at this point not an option. I am worried that the problem is progressive and one day I'll need the car towed. Any ideas?

Problem was getting worse. I put the key partially in the slot, then count to 10, then push the key in the slot. Most of the times it then would work at once.
Got the keyslot replaced yesterday, will keep you posted if it helped.
About 350 euro, to get it fixed:

Thanks for sharing your results.
I do have a recommendation for anyone reading this thread.
1. Try to turn on the car without starting, to do this dock the key and press the start button for 2 seconds (but don’t touch the brake)
2. Then step on the brake and press the start button
One last observation for my 2010 S80 it seems to prefer that I close the driver side door before I dock the key and press the start button.
The various computers in my S80 need time to wake up
Thanks
Paul
