That's a great link and post, thanks cn90.

There is nothing alarmist about that Lancet article, it is straightforward assessment of the data with projections. It's realistic, based on vetted practices of epidemiology.

A reminder to climate-deniers and flat-earthers: you can't choose to not believe that article. You can pay attention to its facts or ignore them, but that won't change the facts or how they affect you. Up to you.

You can't keep this topic free of politics because political leaders have made unacceptable mistakes, visible to all, leading up to this. The US is indeed completely unprepared for this, unquestionably underprepared relative to where we could be. We have been too busy becoming great again. So, are you enjoying this trip back to the 1950's? Vote.

For example, Walmart is now limiting water to 6 cases per person, and other stores are limiting to 2-4.
There are ways around the purchase limits and panicking people don't care what it cost. The purchase limits just keeps the panicking people in the store more and they are more likely to make additional purchases. The multiple bare shelves are evidence of that.

I would say you're comparing publicly-funded, public information and factual reporting to party-backed propaganda.
