Yet another radio code post, but a little different. 1989 760

Post by NerdAlert »

Less than a year in on my 760, and have put some work into it. The forum has been helpful in many ways.

Next was to get an FM modulator installed so I can listen to music and not just the radio. I already had the correct radio code, as we have had to put it in before, with no issues. This time after installing the modulator, it is asking for a code, but the number pad will not recognize any button presses at all, as the display just says Code without ever changing. It does not show the numbers as I type them, or say RPT or EEE or anything other than Code. I uninstalled everything to take it back to stock, and it has the same issue. I can hear the speakers click on and the backlight on the display screen comes on as well. Just strange that only the pad will not work.

Has anyone experienced this or has some insight?

I've had experience with the OE radio from a 1992 960 I was installing in my 1988 760. I had to connect the radio to power for 24 hours before it would reset. I also had the correct code.

I am just leaving it on all the time hoping it will let me type the code at some point. Maybe reset by unhooking the battery, and then clean fuse connections. Not sure what else I can do.

I connected the radio to a 13.8 volt regulated power supply in the apartment. Leaving the radio turned on in my car for 24 hours would have required the ignition be turned on.
