S70 T5M 1999 - Crank but won't start

Post by Baztian »

Hi everyone,

I have a 1999 S70, T5M 2.3L and it just went dead at the shopping center.

I have changed the fuel pump and it won't start either (even with the relay jumped)

I have noticied that the clock inside the dash is not keeping the time.

I have tested all fuses (not all relay's)

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

Sébastien Le Bel

Do you have a check engine light on, and have you checked for any codes? When you say the clock isn't keeping time, is the display not on at all?

No check engine, it started, went shopping, didn't start back
When the ignition key is off, the clock doesn't stay on. I actually don't remember if it normally stays on or off.
NO codes either.

Thanks

On '99+ cars, the clock will turn off shortly after you turn the key off... I think it's 5-10 minutes or something like that. Probably nothing to worry about unless the time itself is resetting.

How long did you drive the car before this happened? Sometimes very short trips in these cars can cause this due to excessive fuel.

The time reset it's self. Like if the battery was disconnected. It keeps the time for about 10 minutes.
Car was running fine.
24h prior to this issue, I have changed oil, oil filter and air filter.
I drove the car for about 5km, parked it and didn"t start 20 minutes later.

Okay, so that would be considered a short trip in my book. The time resetting is a little weird, but I'm not sure that it's related to the no-start... but this is a ME7 car, so who knows.

Take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?t=18175

Also if that doesn't fix it (or either way, to help diagnose this) it would be a good idea to check for spark. That could help narrow down some other issues.

How old is your battery? The ME7 cars need good supply voltage from a fresh battery

Did you give it a 3 - 5 second burst of Starting Fluid to confirm that it is a fuel delivery problem?

A common problem on P80 cars is the electrical part of the ignition switch goes bad at about 150k miles

You get a lot of. Things go crazy when this happens
