Hi Everyone,
Can I put the rear struts from a 2005 XC90 into a 2004 XC70?
Ideally I am hoping the who assembly would just swap.
If not then could I swap the springs and shock absorbers?
My understanding is that I need to replace nivomats with nivomats unless I replace the springs too - is that right?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,
What part of Iowa are you in?
Are your Nivomats toast?
You can retrofit in standard XC70 shocks/springs. The top mounts are the same & the bottom mount is also the same. You could probably find complete assemblies at a junkyard. I may be able to help also.

I am in the Cedar Rapids area, but I travel to Des Moines and the Quad Cities.
My springs are broken, at least one is. I don't know about the shock absorbers. I am not wanting to mess with the compressed springs if I can avoid it. That's why I was thinking of getting whole assemblies if I can.
I have the 2005 xc90 parts available. Do you think they would fit?
Otherwise I would put a stick with wire wrapped around it if it would work. I just need this car back on the road. Any ideas that you have would help. Is there a interchange chart somewhere?

I do not believe XC90 rears will fit. They do not cross on the various parts sites, but that's not to say it hasn't been done.
How many miles are you at & have they been replaced?
Lesjofors springs (in Nivomat fitment) are rather inexpensive - $28/each.
If it was me I'd take the old ones out & just swap springs. HF spring compressors are like $25-30. I've done dozens of springs with my set. I'd be happy to help you do yours if you make it into the area.
