Thanks for all the tips and help everyone, I finally got them off and the new ones installed.Installing the new ones was just about as bad because of the lack of room to turn a wrench,could only turn the wrench a hair at a time because it would rub against the vise grips, I had to turn it a mm then the vise grips a mm but new shocks are on, I am not sure the longevity of the ones i installed (SACHS) but i sure hope they last a long time so I don't have to visit this task again in the near future.

Naturally Volvo has a special tool for that job. Similar to the front one.
