Hello,
Ever since I bought my 2000 V70XC the temperature gauge never quite gets to the 3 o'clock position. It always stops right between the 3 o'clock mark and the mark below that (see photo). It never fluctuates but always comes just shy of the 3 o'clock mark. And in case you are wondering, I am 100% sure the engine is all the way warmed up.
I'm not sure if this is normal on this year/model. I just know that when I had my 98' V70 it would always go to exactly the 3 o'clock mark on the gauge.
The question I have is: Should I be looking to replace the ECT sensor?

It could be oxidation creating a high resistance on the ECT electrical connector. Considering that the car is 20 years old it a good probability. Try cleaning the ECT electrical connector with MAF cleaner or Electrical contact cleaner.

I would try a new thermostat as they're cheap and easy to replace. If that doesn't work, new OEM ECT wouldn't hurt, especially if it's original. Your temp doesn't really look bad though.
