As a former English teacher and editor I merely responded to this, well, snarky comment by pointing out that it wasn't a run-on. Your advice is proper but misdirected. I have taken pains to compliment and thank Rick for his advice and would not think of discouraging his or anyone's participation. After all, that's what I came here for. But as a new member, I'm not sure I felt much warmth from that encounter.

My apologies from the Mod Desk and I hope you will remain and pass this one off as unusual

Text talk is the only thing that we really abhor here. but even sentence fragments are ok for short replies of either value or thanks. W

No apologies necessary, Empty Nester, and I wouldn't think of taking my marbles and going home. I've received a world of great advice in a short space of time. Rick's tip alone got me thinking along the right lines and led to the solution of a very stressful problem.

I agree on texting style--it can be a chore to decipher sometimes. But I can recall only one occasion in all my years of forum posting when I had to throw my hands up and admit defeat: Someone had used a really bad translation app, and his post was simply unintelligible. That doesn't seem to be a problem here.

I’m sure we can rise to the challenge of gibberish posts when needed....

Great idea. We should have a new rule that you can only post to the forum in Fedspeak a la Alan Greenspan.

Then we would truly be confused. I kind of miss him, actually.
