Power Window Sluggish - 1994 - 850 Wagon
Power Window Sluggish - 1994 - 850 Wagon
I have a 1994 850 Wagon and the drivers power window does not like the cold weather. It goes down about half way and stops. I can push it the rest of the way with a fair amount of force. It comes back up just fine. It works okay in warm weather but is a little sluggish. I did a search on this forum and others and didn't find anything. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

I haven't taken apart a window regulator for my Volvo yet, but on other vehicles, when the window is slow or difficult to roll up and down (on a manual window), I have always been able to take the regulator out of the door, clean it, lubricate it, and re-install it with much better operation. My experience has been that when the regulators get old, the rails and sliding pieces get full of dirt, and the grease gets old and dry. I'm not sure what the best grease to use is, but maybe someone else has a suggestion. I have used Liquid Wrench before (never WD40), but I suspect that a good quality grease would last longer.
I would start with this, and if it doesn't help, then maybe you need a new motor, or maybe there is a resistance in the switch/wiring causing the voltage at the motor to be low, but that is unlikely.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds reasonable. I'll start with the regulator and go from there. I have to admit I'm a little intimidated by anything having to do with the windows. But, hopefully with the help of a Haynes manual there won't be any problems.
