Rear seat back release lever

Greetings all,

I am having some trouble figuring out how to remove the release button/lever from the top of the rear seat in my '98 V70. The release lever doesn't want to release. Any links or suggestions on how I might remove the plastic molding and hardware to/for the lever would be most appreciated!

Try looking at a Volvo on-line dealer web-site with a parts diagram of the rear seat. I had this issue with my parents 96 850 wagon. Unfortunately I did not have the time or tools needed to try to dismantle the rear seat while visiting them in the UK.

If I recall it was a Catch 22 issue where you had to have the seat back down to get into the back of it to access the mechanism.

I would look up Vida but my laptop it is on has crashed yet again.

Hopefully someone else can guide us on how to get into the car. I think I did see a post a while back on the issue but can't remember when.

If you cant lie the seat flat I cant really see how it can be done. The lever is held in place by the trim pieces, in turn fastened with little push rivets that face the C-pillar and are inaccessible with the seat up.

If the seat is down then just push the centres out of the push rivets and remove the casing. Then the moulding will be free and can be released.

I got Vida running again for now. Had a quick look at the drawing for the seat and locking mechanism. I am guessing the cable release has detached or broken from the upper latch. The only way I can think of to release the seat back would be to somehow get a screw driver or something into the latch and manually lifting it. I can't get into my car just not to have a look as it is under snow and a locked car cover. I hope someone else can give a better reply or knows how to access the latch to release the seat back.
