In checking Maxlife it is synthetic. I've use it twice close to twenty years ago so don't know if it was the same product but did not work well in both cars (88 Camry & 89 Mazda 323). Not sure what the 1 star reviewer meant by "Does not meet OEM specifications"

Maybe the same stuff from Aisin? Someone probably bottles for both Volvo and Aisin with the same.

No, I've tried that particular Aisin fluid, it's the worst from all the ATFs I've tried (Mobil 3309, Toyota T-IV, Idemitsu Type-TLS, Valvoline MaxLife, Amsoil Synthetic ATF). Volvo original ATF is produced probably by Idemitsu, but it differs significantly from Idemitsu aftermarket fluid.

I've had 3 AW55 transmissions, they worked best with 1161540/640 ATF.

Original ATF is cheap these days, $42 for 4l, $84 for a full flush that is needed like every 2-3 years.

But hey Yeahbutt says Costello the Chevron Havoline Full Syn 3309 @ $3.65 a quart is still cheaper. Am I the only Guinea Pig on this stuff in this forum and in three cars. In CA Chevron was the only gas besides Costco's I put in the cars.

I was searching for Moosehead and forgot it was Wolf's Head. Put 2 Mooseheads on the C30 fenders yesterday and 1 on the S80 Trunk. I think Moosehead was a beer also? Family own a couple of Liquor Stores in High School but we didn't drink .

Purchased 4 cases of the Havoline and 1 case Wolf's Head in the last 2 years. 3 Havoline down and 2 car purchases to go? Can't wait to try the Wolf.

Yes . Used this in many Volvo's. I've also used it to quiet down Volvo power steering pumps. I use it in anything but CVT.
