intermittent right front vibration

I went to replace my wheel bearing over the weekend and instead found axial play in the outer joint of my driver's side axle (the side that is making noise.) I don't have any clicking, but I can feel play in the axle, and no play in the wheel bearing. The noise comes and goes, I can't decide which one to replace. I can still return the wheel bearing if I replace the axle and find that it's the problem, so I think I may do that first (local axle rebuilder has one in stock for $80.)

I will update when I solve my issue...

Axle clicking happens when the CV joint wear is really advanced. An axle with small play can cause vibrations at 50mph+ Only a very worn bearing with clear play by hand will cause vibrations. Turn the bearing by hand with the axle removed, if it feels smooth it's good

So my axle did have some axial play (in/out, not radial) but my vibration ended up becoming more and more like a normal wheel bearing failure and so I replaced the wheel bearing. It was indeed the wheel bearing. Very odd as it started off as an intermittent vibration only at low speed, but it eventually evolved into a high-speed vibration that would worsen when turning right.
