Hello,
I've had 1999 V70 XC for the past 7 years. When I bought the car the former owner let me know that the key wouldn't unlock the doors manually and only the fob would lock and unlock the doors. The only lock that the key works with is the hatchback.
Last summer when it was hot (I live in Charleston SC, so it gets nice and hot) the locks sporadically stopped unlocking, especially when it was in the direct sunlight. Once it cooled down the problem stopped.
Now that we are in spring and it's warming up the issue has started again and seems to be worse. If the car is in the sun or it's warmer the locks do not unlock.
All I really need is a key that will work on the door lock. Suggestions?
Appreciate it.
Rob

Each door lock actuator has a thermal overload fuse in it. As they age they start to break down and will overload at a lower load level. When it gets hot outside, the overload switch will kick in under nearly no load.
I think there may be a tutorial on how to get a work around, or only other option is new door locks on the offending doors.
Are you sure someone has not replaced the door handle at some point and it has the wrong lock assembly in it?
The headlight washers also have a similar issue which can be fixed by disassembling the motors and replacing the resistor with a piece of wire, but the risk is if you get the wipers frozen in the winter you will blow the main fuse which takes out the windshield wipers as well. I think there was also a tutorial for that with an updated resistor soldered in. Otherwise solder in an in-line fuse for each wiper at a lower value than the main wiper fuse.
Good Luck. (that reminds me both my rear doors on my 'R' do that and won't open when hot).
Neil.
