Viscous coupler rebuilds for 98-00 V70XCs

Hello,

Curious if any folks know if there exists a source for new viscous couplers for 98-00' V70XCs or if they can be rebuilt? I have seen them rebuilt for other vehicles but don't know if its possible for these cars.

If not, I'm hoping there exists the possibility of purchasing other aftermarket units and installing them in these cars.

Not aware of any aftermarket VC units. Also do not believe there is any way to repair the VC unit itself as it is a sealed unit.Volvo did sell them but not sure if they still have stock. If you buy one make sure it has been stored upright. Dealer foreman said they had issues if the weren't as the fluid does not stay in the clutch and they will fry immediately once installed.

Oh, and I would need to check if they are all the same. I know 97-98 are different to 99-00. They have different flanges if I recall.

Darn. Just wish I could rebuild it or replace system with something else that might work.

You'll probably have to find a used unit somewhere. Going to be hard to find likely and of questionable condition at this age and potential mileage. Unless you really really want the AWD, which is not amazing on this car to begin with, I'd just remove the drive shaft and call it good. Odds are you'll also eventully be replacing the drive shaft and angle gear, as all are fail points.

I've been running FWD on mine with no driveshaft and angle gear removed for almost 10 years and haven't looked back.

You could try vandsautodismantlers in Sacramento. Specialist Volvo and Saab breakers. I know one person found them hard to deal with but I did not.
