I’ve had this 2008 xc90 for several years. This thing was mounted to the center speaker grill. It’s always bothered me, but I never got around to investigating it until the COVID 19 lockdown.
It was definitely put there by a pro. It was connected to something (maybe the head unit) by a purple wire with a legit looking connector. There is no speaker underneath, which pisses me off a little bit.
The part has the Volvo of Sweden logo stamped underneath, so I presume it’s some kind of factory or dealer modification.
Anybody have a clue?

Cradle for a Garmin nuvi, the "other" accessory option for adding GPS. Nuvi 75x and 76x, may be a few others that will fit.

Thanks. I figured it was something like that. I even tried setting my Garmin in it some time ago, but my nuvi is too new for this cradle.
I just hate that they punched 3 holes in the speaker grille and yanked out the speaker just for an accessory that would be obsolete within 4-5 years. It would be fine to do that on a new Kia Rio or something, because the Garmin will probably outlive the Kia.

Depending on the size of the holes a small black plug can trim it out well. A little paint or black wrap on the plug would do also.docjohnpaul wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:51 Thanks. The smaller plugs could work.

That grille is actually the location of the Volvo Factory Navigation System.docjohnpaul wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:51 Thanks. I figured it was something like that. I even tried setting my Garmin in it some time ago, but my nuvi is too new for this cradle.
