No brake lights

Post by MDK »

Hey all...MDK here. I want to thank the moderators and everyone else who responded to my post about my exhaust conundrum, which is for the most part... solved. I didn't mention me and my friend Doc Tom tore out the 4 c suspension(good riddance) and replaced it with struts and springs from an 07 S60 AWD . Anyway...everytime you hit the brakes the prompt comes up to check brake lights. Awhile ago... I think it was oragex... said to check the relay in the rear CEM. He was halfway right. I hit the brakes and Doc Tom wiggled the relay and the lower brake lights came on. He was saying either re-solder or replace the CEM. So the question is... are these pretty much universal if I get one of the scrap yard? I was thinking that. Just put all the fuses and relays in the same position. I really don't want to "smoke" a module or worse. What do you all recommend? MDK

Interested in this too, my car is suffering from this too atm... Rear fog light and cruise don't want too work too when this happens.

Always good to read an update. As for the module, it's the REM Rear Electronic Module, inside the trunk (the CEM being a front module inside the dash board)

I'm not aware if this module needs programming. I would try getting a used one from the junkyard/Ebay, and see if the numbers match and try installing it (the car battery must be disconnected). I'm not saying it will work, but it's perhaps worth a try if a used can be bought for not much. Oterwise Xemodex does rebuild these https://xemodex.ca/ca/product/rear-elec ... for-volvo/

Thanks oragex... yeah REM... I thought about xemodex. Here in Cincinnati...they just throw Volvo's away. You should see the junkyards here. Most people in Cincinnati when they take them to the dealership and get a pricey repair bill they kick them to the curb. I'll see what I can do and let you know what I come up with...MDK

If you have good Volvo junkyards please share. Hard to find here as people fix them

How can I make sure it’s an exact match with the REM on my 2004 s60r?

I see two
Listings on eBay.

Thanks

My 2005 has a weird REM that oxidizes the # 5 fuse about every 2 years that takes out all the rear running lights

15 second wipe off fuse sets it right and I’m on way thanking the police officer for a warning.
