Re: How to tell if Timing Belt Service had ever been done ?
Alternatively, bent valves and a complete loss of compression after timing belt or tensioner failure is diagnostic of lack of prior timing belt change.

The belt seems very well to me. May crank a bit the engine see if you can find the white strips on the belt, will give you an idea if it's a genuine Volvo one or not. Now, the big question is if the parts were of good quality. I seem to see some leak where it points in this picture. Can you take a second look ? That could be a leak from the cam seals, or even from the water pump - the pump is the gear right above where it appears to be wet. The pump has a hole to it, see if anything leaks from there. Also test the PCV (Youtube)

Yes, it’s moot because you have oil leaks from both cam seals, I think.
Once you commit to that, you replace the belt at the very least.

No both Can Seals dry, not sure where that old grease is from ? It was the same right underneath the car too in that area, but I've since cleaned it with brake cleaner and it's dry and hasn't come back. So it must been an old issue from prior owner / owners SMH.

Dry and run 1000 miles or so?
Don’t panic on the TB. The parts are really robust on these cars, especially the RN models with the mechanical tensioner.
The same one is used in the P2 models, which get a 150,000 mile 15 year warranty if you buy the same car in the “ right state”
Volvo knows the exposure on that warranty and it isn’t large
I suggest...if you are going to do this yourself, take the item and learn the VVT intricacies buy parts including seals, drive carefully and keep revs down in Mom land (not June) and get her done
If you know you don’t want to do it yourself, make the appointment tomorrow.
If I had to guess from the pictures. I would say those are original parts, 75% confidence level.

Yes, its free for car maintenance tracking. As an example. I have a 2008 S60 my son purchased and the PO had no idea if or when the TB was changed. I used the free Carfax app and found out the it had a 100,000 mi service done at a volvo dealership, but not specific record of TB. I called the dealership, gave them the VIN and they indeed had installed the timing belt. Found out he had about 50,000 mi left on the belt.

I've watched many videos of these solenoids being oped up and taken apart and cleaned up.darrylrobert wrote: ↑05 May 2020, 20:24 Is this part what I may need ?

I took mine off and I'm waiting for the gasket to arrive. In the meantime I tried to take it apart but it doesn't seem like it's possible on the one I have. Is this correct ? Is this old one cleanable ? I don't want to break it as I tried to separate the black part but had no luck.
