Looking for transmission for 1999 V70R

Post by mperdue »

Hi all,

I know this is a big lift, but reverse just went out on my transmission. Does anybody know where I can find a decent used transmission for a 1999 V70R?

Thanks,
Marc

Thanks,

I wound up having to buy a new one, dang it. $$$$ Yeah, it has a serious issue with backing up. I think the tranny is a weakness in these cars... When mine's cold, it sometimes doesn't want to transfer the power backing up our driveway, which is a little steep. Once it warms up, it's fine.

Not sure if the R trans is unique to it? For 99 is it not the same as the V70XC and AWD models up to 00 (with the exception on the 00 R which is a 5 speed).

I don't remember exactly how much it was. We get it serviced at a small Volvo specialty shop that also sells used Volvos. Edgecomb's Imported Auto, Charlottesville, VA. I want to say it was on the order of $4-5K. It made us seriously consider whether we should keep the car, but the R is otherwise a really awesome car. We bought it from a Volvo engineer who added a new exhaust manifold and dual exhaust to it so it looks like a 2000 model. The tranny was replaced in August 2018 and it's been great since then, with only a few minor things here or there. It was really odd to me that it went out as our car only had about 90K miles on it at the time. It's still a low-mileage car as we put maybe 4-6K miles on it a year. If we decide to sell it, we'll let you all know.

Cool Marc, They are fun cars. Mine has over 200k miles. Given the high miles I'm not sure if I'll spend the $5k for a new transmission. Right now the car is garaged until I get a plan.
Thanks,
pat
