Not in Texas, but near there. After 10-12 years the clear coat starts to deteriorate. Red colors fade quickly. Do the clear coats go bad in northern states?

I heard these cars didn't have a clear on them. Is that true? There isn't any peeling which you would expect.

Volvo clearcoats generally don't see the failure rates of some domestic and older Japanese models. Clearcoat's durability can have some color-based issues. Clearcoat's problems I've experienced in NJ on Volvos were due to failing crash repairs, not bad factory clearcoats.

Correct, 601 red is single stage. A compound job with M105 or similar will clear that paint right up.

Yes looking forward to getting some as seen on tv wow moments after a cut job on it. This 855R is a Houston car and lived around the gulf coast its whole life. According to the CarFax it had 72,500 miles after 3 years ownership, poor thing was stuck going straight for so long.

Got my freon evacuated in preparation for ac compressor replacement. While the freon machine was working, mechanic buddy sid he noticed the radiator leaking due to residue around the top. I glanced at it and decided to replace the radiator too since it was 15yrs old and the brand is unknown. After closer inspection what he was seeing was the top plastic cap of the intercooler. The top cap is soaked in oily dirt residue and Im at a loss to explain how or why. Thoughts? I havent experienced any boost issues. I suppose there could be a leak but I dont know how it could get on the front side too?

Pulled my runner cover with an autobody friend to find this. He says it's manageable and I was hoping to get 5 years out of the car so I guess I'm tackling this next.

I'm going to check out a s70 that just arrived at junk lot to see about cutting off a donor piece. I have a thread going if anyone has any tips

Addressed the misfiring on the 2003 S40. Cleaning the electrical connector to the MAF is all it took.

I imagine this is what my cousin's old wagon would have looked like if we removed the rocker covers before crushing it.

That's relatively normal. It's probably what has soaked through the IC hoses. As long as you don't have any boost issues, I say go ahead and clean it up and run it!
