How have the P3 Volvos aged? Attn Jimmy57

Post by matthew1 »

Jimmy, around 2011, you said here -- I haven't looked for your post specifically, but always had it in the back of my mind -- that the P3 XC70 was doing "so far so good" on repairs and maintenance, as a design.

Simpler front end vs. P2 and other refinements set it on track to be more durable or more reliable (read: less costly) to own than the famous P2 Volvos.

I've been sniffing around used 2012-ish XC70s, and they seem to hold their value better than just about any Volvo I've paid any attention to.

I find the aesthetics have grown on me. I used to be ambivalent and thought the look was a touch busy, but now their "solid/utility" look I kind of enjoy. The chrome bits give it a very upscale, country club vibe.

My question: has the promise been met on these XC70s?

For those on the edge of your seat, following along, here's a bit of P2 vs. P3 action.

Never did get it. I feel you on the exterior vs interior.

Not to hijack, but I'm currently on the hunt for an XC70. I narrowed my search to 05-07 P2 or 09-10 P3 with the T6 engine. Is it a better value to build a p2 to get the same performance as the T6, or just invest in the 09+ P3 with a T6 engine (especially one with Polestar tune)
