Hi All, I'm in the process of changing the rear crank oil seal, replaced the seal last week & oil still pours out. I think I did something wrong! So I'm doing it again!! It looks like I may not have had the new seal in dead square. My question is, once I've replaced the seal, & put flywheel & clutch back on, am I ok to run the engine without fitting gearbox back on? The reason is obvious!! I don't want to do it all again!!
I 've had 2 240's in the past so have a little idea, I bought this one a year ago,it had been neglected & needed some sorting, The car was leaking oil when I bought it.I have done the flame trap amongst other things.
Thanks for any advice
rear crankshaft oil seal
Hello, Yes,I did the flame trap last year, & checked the pressure, using the proverbeal plastic bag trick!.I bought this particular 240, with a veiw to restore & am making my way through things, sadly the car was neglected by the PO. Rear seal is now sorted, The first one I bought, I think wasn't very good, I ordered a volvo OEM seal & it was totally different to the first one, , all done & not a drip anywhere!!
