Post by Metallo »

Hi there,

Has anybody been able to open the Haldex for repair?

Any way to remove the black plastic cover?

Thank you!

They do come apart, I have not tried (yet) but I do have 2 old pumps I need to (attempt to) rebuild. A member in the XC90 forum did a write up on the AOC pump tear down a little while ago. I’ll try to find it.

Hi Pete,

I appreciate your help, I was unable to find any write up about this on the Internet or in this forum, but sometimes is not easy to find what you want, we may use different wording.
Thanks again for your help!

I have come across some good info using translator. Most of it seems to come from Russia/Ukraine/Czech Republic.

I have a bunch of Haldex/AOC threads saved somewhere but here’s the one I was referring to earlier.

Exhaust isn’t mandatory to remove, but you must free at least the rear CV joint on the driveshaft from the oscillation damper on the AOC/Haldex input. After that, must remove oscillation damper itself. Some cars had a shallower oscillation dampers & it was possible to remove just the rear CVJ. Others had a deeper cup to the oscillation damper & it was mandatory to free the front CVJ from bevel gear output flange first before freeing rear CVJ. All XC’s I’ve seen have the deeper cup. My VR has the shallow cup.

As Pete said you don't need to remove the exhaust to access the Haldex. I let the exhaust hang a foot and rested the muffler on a jackstand. The downpipe between manifold and CAT is robust and can take a good bend. I have the deep oscillation damper so had to remove the CV joint from the front bevel gear first.

If I only want to do a oil and filter change, is the filter changeable without removing anything else?

No, removing the flange must be done first, but you can change the filter without pulling the pump.
