08 C30 - Engine turns over with constant "grinding" no start

Post by Smax »

I am stumped and needing help!

I changed the plugs on my C30 as a maintenance issue and went to start it after and it wouldn't turn over normally. All it does is a slowish turnover at a constant speed and almost sounds like a grinding type noise. It continued until it timed out. Tried again and same thing. I put old plugs back in that were working prior and same issue. Checked for spark at sane time and it is getting spark.

I was having an issue awhile back where I'd have to turn the key on twice to start the car so thought perhaps Starter. I replaced starter and solenoid and still having the same problem.

Here is a link to a video showing it. I had the timing belt cover off and prior and could see the engine is actually turning over slowly as this is happening.

Thanks

Did you accidentally allow something down into a spark plug hole?
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Battery and everything checked and good. When I took out one of the spark plugs it did break however was able to retrieve broken piece that matched up so all good.

As an aside, I don't think it did but if a tiny shard of spark plug ceramic did fall in to hole would it cause this?

Thanks
