Real Trouble E5 screw on ABS module

2004 V70 NA While trying to replace the ABS module, I finally made the big mistake. Since the unit is mounted upside down, I accidently tightened one of the mounting screws. This managed to bugger the splines. Can anyone suggest a way that I can get a grip on the E5 torx screw. I know about the 5/32ds interchange, but that doesn't hold either. I have a replacement screw for the one I messed up.

You should be able to get a vice grip on it and remove.

The screws are centered in "reliefs" in the plastic module. No vice grips I have seen could find the area around the screws required. I am considering trying to get a grip with small wire cutters. Had the same problem in removing the module from my "parts" Volvo. I ended up having to remove the entire unit and drill out the screw. Don't want to repeat that.

You could try JB welding the socket onto the fastener as a last resort before removing it.

A Left hand drill bit with the drill in reverse will most likely will spin the bolt out. Go slow and make sure you get the bit centered so it does not snap when the bolt turns.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have the left hand drills. But, aside from being upside down, the E5 head is so small, I dcould never center it. Before I had to take the entire unit out and lock it in my drill press to even approximate center.

I did a search and assume it was the post about using an E6. Failing that, I will try the JB Weld suggestion. I have sockets and bolts to spare. Although before reassembly I think I will also get the bolts you suggested from ACE, why go through this twice?

try 4mm socket (or whatever mm fits it) it'll grip the same.

I think you need to remove the whole unit,sorry. the copper lines are flexible so might be able to get a better angle view on the problem.
