Hello everyone

I was wondering if our community has put together a list of worthwhile engine re-builders.

If not, I think that with the size of MVS we could.

I bring it up because, I am having a beast of a time trying to find a rebuilt engine or someone competent that can rebuild my sons s60 2.4. I trust the MVS community more than anyone I've found around me.

When i blew my V70 motor, it lost compression in two cylinders but no mechanic wanted to touch it. I rang a rebuilder and after i said Volvo the phone went quiet and he never rang me back.

They said it would be cheaper getting a junkyard one put in which is what i did.

That was my first thought as well. Unfortunately my nearest yard is 60 miles, which isn't bad. However my yards won't check their inventory for parts.
I have looked, usually the head is gone. The rest have 150K+ on the odo. We don't have rust but, we have scrappers that seem to pick the cars before they get to the yard.

My preferred yard is 90 miles away. Same issues. They post a computerized inventory, but all that gives you is year, make, model, color and VIN. Doesn't tell you what might be gone when you get to it.

It’s not crazy to think about shipping motors.

Add 200 miles of driving to a junkyard and you are arguably spending $150-$200 in time and miles cost, to then face a 5 hour engine removal

If you go to guys like Erie, I think you can get an engine shipped for something near to that?

I had an engine shipped from a yard in California to NJ. I think shipping was around $300. It was one of two engines I had found at the time. The other was way closer to me in NJ. Other terms made CA engine more appealing. (Mostly lower mileage).

I had my engine shipped from Specialized German in Rancho Cordova, Ca. Not so far from New Mexico. Reach out. They may be able to help. I dealt with Marco. Good guy.

The other place I found an engine was Leesville Automotive in Edison? Or maybe Elizabeth, N.J. Leesville had an excellent reputation with my local independent mechanic. But shipping from N.J. could be steep. Leesville was more expensive for a higher mileage engine, but had a better guarantee which included some allowance against labor cost if the engine they supplied failed and needed to be replaced.
